Significant/Familiar Place

For the significant/familiar places part of the brief i wanted to take photos of the street i grew up, i was quite inspired by Boris Mikahilov's 'Dusk' (link goes to the post on my research blog) and wanted the photos to have quite a dreamy, nostalgic feel, and since this is where i lived when i was a child my memories are quite hazy so i wanted it to represent that too. I shot a film here a few weeks ago, and tried cross processing it - although apparently the chemicals had been left open so the film didnt turn out, i went to reshoot it yesterday and decided to process it normally.  Everything seemed bigger when i lived there so i shot from quite a low angle. I used my Holga 120 GCFN, with Fujicolour PRO 400. I decided to use my holga because it's a plastic toy camera and can produce quite strange results, the cheap lens on it makes for lovely vignettes! I haven't been back there much since i lived there, so the whole experience was quite surreal (and a little bit creepy!)

The Human Condition - Ideas.

For the 'Human Condition' brief i want to make a set of images that show visual representations of various personality disorders/states of mind. I want to present them in an old victorian album, and give the whole set an old asylum feel. Above is a mind map of my ideas.

Here are some sketches i have done whilst drafting ideas; for the first image in the album i want something that resembles Ophelia, although not the cliche of drowning, more just a portrait of someone with messy hair with flowers and twigs etc.

Below are the sketches i have done for 'insomnia'. Styling with be big hair, dark makeup around the eyes and some form of nightgown and stockings. I want something to do with clocks for this one; although i think i might just use one big clock as a prop instead.

The Infirmary

Me, Chelsea and Jenna had a little trip to visit the infirmary on Monday, it's an old hospital which has been closed for a while. I was quite dark in some areas so the pictures are either quite dark or very noisy!

Here are some of the best pictures and a contact sheet;
